History:
This quilt was made by Hilda Gibson (later Hutchison) in County Durham England and brought to Australia in 1926 in her glory box. Hilda died in 1966 and the quilt was bequeathed to her daughter Sylvia Haydock who is the owner. It is not used now.
Story:
Hilda came to Australia to marry an Australian soldier, a Gallipoli veteran, whom she met in England after the war. They lived on a sheep property in WA, 1927-1956. The quilt was used until Hilda died in 1966 and then used occasionally by her daughter Sylvia. " As I (Sylvia) didn't realise the quilt would ever be of interest to anyone else children were allowed to romp on it quite freely. It has been washed frequently and treated carelessly" [ Sylvia Haydock 16.8.98]
