Description:
Canadian Log' design (log cabin?). It is a hand stitched quilt constructed from 6,240 pieces of silk, satin, velvet, cotton, brocade and corduroy. The type of padding is unknown and the backing is cotton with a floral design. 1920 x 1900 mm
History:
"The quilt was made in the house of the Earl of St. Germain on the Cornwall-Devon border in England. It was made circa 1810. It was brought out to the colony of South Australia very early in the pioneering days." [Ron and Kay Lobegeiger, Supervisors Sturt House] Mrs. E.W.H.Beer of Adelaide presented the quilt to the Charles Sturt Memorial Museum Trust Inc. in 1967. The quilt is displayed under glass in the Grange, the colonial home of Captain Charles Sturt (the Australian explorer).

The border is made up of these stars and half-diamonds, and the entire quilt is trimmed with lace and triangular flaps made of tiny hexagons." Patchwork quilt with alternate squares of green and fawn cotton headcloth. Various Australian wild flowers are embroidered in coloured threads in the green squares. In the fawn squares there is a stylised flower and leaf pattern outlined in embroidery. The border, front and back is green headcloth. The backing is printed cotton with a floral design. There is some padding.

Patchwork cot or pram quilt made of diamond patches in the Tumbling Block pattern. Patches are made from cotton, corduroy and velvet, with red, black, teal blue, green, brown and cream predominating. No padding. Backing is of green wool and the quilt is bound with dark red crushed velvet.
