Description:
Wholecloth quilt of fine cream homespun embroidered with red and white stranded cotton. It is a cross stitch design of roses pre stamped on the material. The quilting consists of a fern pattern medallion in the centre, straight lines and a fern pattern border. The padding is fine wadding and the backing is white sheeting with a small floral pattern,

History:
The quilt was made by Mrs. Clare May in Melbourne in the early 1960s. The kit was bought either in America or at Georges in Melbourne. It is now owned by Mrs. May's daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Mayes and is not used.
Story:
Mrs. May was a member of the Australian-American Association in the 1960s and was a very keen sewer.

Wholecloth pram quilt with a top of pink cotton sateen, and the reverse is a more finely woven, ivory, fabric. All over quilting design as main feature, with stylised hearts, leaves and cross hatching. The padding is cotton batting. 870 x 660 mm.

Utilitarian quilt. Padding consists of recycled hand knitted jumper pieces (mainly 3 ply crepe and 8 ply) tacked to a layer of cotton material with strong buttonhole twist thread. The top is a piece of cotton fabric. Machine quilted in rows approximately 70mm apart.

Central quilting pattern of interlaced curves, within 3 rows of parallel stitching, then a border pattern of an interlaced knot design, the edge finished with 2 rows of parallel quilting. Garland with berries appliqued on wholecloth quilt of off white cotton. The backing is whole cloth in soft green. The garland (ribbon appearance) is in floral patterned green. The red berries are padded. It is machine quilted. Dacron type padding.
