Description: 
Quilt made of woollen dressmaking scraps, patterned and plain, stitched to an army issue demob blanket, grey with white stripes. Pieces are featherstitched in red and yellow broder cotton. The quilt was edged with red cotton fabric machine zig zagged in place.

History: 

Made by Anne Gardener, the present owner, in 1955 while living on a sheep property 'Calala' near Hannaford Queensland.

Story: 

The quilt was used on children's beds and also while listening to the radio at night when it was chilly. The owner mentioned that their car was not air conditioned so the quilt was taken on trips to provide warmth.
As this quilt is in poor condition it has been used as a dog blanket.

Pieced patchwork quilt of hexagons in cottons, chintzes and linen. The centre is pieced in 6 point hexagon stars, then radiating out are large hexagons alternating with tumbling blocks, then 6 piece hexagon stars and 4 piece hexagon diamonds. Some pieces have Egyptian patterns dating from 1800 - 1805. The backing is cream linen.

Patchwork quilt in Log Cabin pattern, arranged in 'furrows', and made from cottons, wool and suiting fabrics. Centres of blocks are pastel or dark; dark colours are black, brown, purple blue and red. Pastel side of blocks includes a bright pink. Quilt backing is pieced, with a centre rectangle of cotton surrounded by 5 borders of plain and alternate rectangular pieced strips, in wool and suiting fabrics. Colours are black, dark blue, brown, green, grey and pastels. Inner lining is of cotton pieces, to which the Log Cabin blocks have been machined.

Hand pieced patchwork quilt with 10 diamonds consisting of hexagons with white and black rows as edging. Materials include furnishing and dress materials and a type of linen. It is not quilted or tied. The backing is a small floral print in flannelette.

Frame quilt in cottons with a centre motif of pieced 8 point star surrounded by borders, 2 from red/white material printed to represent Tumbling Block patchwork. The remaining borders are, one plain, one of pieced squares, one of pieced large triangles with squares in the corner. The outer border is plain. The padding is wool and the backing is cream cotton. It is elaborately quilted.
