Description:
Strips of mainly patterned cotton dress materials joined to form 3 blocks to make the quilt top. Each block is outlined with a plain deep blue border. The backing is calico. There is no padding and it is not quilted.

The quilt was found in Sydney c.1950. It is now in the collection of Annette Gero.

"Many mail order catalogues, travelling salesmen and department stores catered for country clients by offering sample books of fabrics. This quilt contains many samples of cotton fabrics in the centre panel, the same pattern but in different colour-ways��" [Annette Gero]

Hexagon quilt in dress and shirting cottons constructed in frame style with a centre rosette of 7 patches surrounded by 4 borders of patterned hexagons alternating with cream patches. The quilt has an inner border of triangles then rows of rosettes alternating with cream patches. The outer border is triangles. There is no padding. The backing is cream linen and has had a 20th century white cotton sateen slipstitched to it.

Cotton scrap quilt with shapes of diamonds, strip and squares. The quilt has been repaired using machine zig zag in white cotton. There is no padding and the backing is calico.

Hexagon quilt constructed over papers; all seams oversewn with featherstitch embroidery. Materials are vyella and clydella scraps from childhood dresses of the maker's first four children, augmented with scraps from a dressmaker and a book of samples. There is no padding; backing is plain, pale blue, brushed cotton.

Frame quilt with central square of fabric around which the borders or frames have been added in strips. The fabrics are mostly floral, a heavy weight similar to damask or curtaining. The colours are mainly beige, brown, green and red. The original backing was a red paisly design. A second backing, of red, brown and yellow leaves on white (possibly dating from 1930s), has been added at a later date. Quilt is bound with brown fabric.
