Utilitarian quilt with both sides made from large pieces of wool, flannel and cotton. Machine construction and the padding is wool.

History: 

This is one of two utilitarian quilts made by Daphne and Olive Gibson at Thowgla, near Corryong, Victoria in the late 1920s. It is now in the collection of Annette Gero.

Story: 

Daphne and Olive Gibson were neices of Mary Annie Whitehead. The descendants of these families still live in the Corryong district today.

Patchwork quilt made from diamond patches in a variety of cotton materials set in a 'tumbling block' pattern. Patterns include geometrics, stripes, a 'Kate Greenway' print and colours are largely soft pastels, dark browns, with some reds and blues. The quilt has been cut down and a later border added. There is no padding and the backing is cream cotton.

The quilt is a repeat block in the Ohio Star pattern in turkey red and cream. Quilted in squares in the cream block and diagonal lines in the star block. The fabric border is disintegrating. The backing is cream calico and the padding is cotton, badly degraded. 1940 x 1760mm.
