Description:
Embroidered floral squares quilt. Consists of sixteen embroidered squares (mainly flowers) on white sheeting divided by pale green and pale apricot floral sashing. Hand quilted in a square within a square pattern. The binding is the same pattern as the sashing and has been put on by machine. The padding is very thin processed cotton and the backing is white sheeting. This quilt was possibly made from a pre stamped kit. 1940 x 1800mm.
History:
The name of the maker is unknown but it was made in the USA probably in the 1930s. It was purchased at a garage sale in 1992/3 in California by the present owner. The vendor was selling off his mother's effects and had sold all her other quilts of which there were many. He really didn't want to sell this quilt as it had been used as a mattress protector and was still stained despite washing. The vendor did not wish to give his name to the purchaser. The quilt is not used now.

This hand pieced and hand quilted hexagon quilt is in a pattern often called 'Grandmother's Flower Garden'. The background is white and there are concentric rows of double rosettes each with a yellow centre. The colours start in the centre of the quilt with pink and then follow the rainbow. Paper templates were used. The padding is cotton (American) and the backing is cotton floral poplin.

Hand sewn hexagons over paper templates in a pattern known as 'Grandmother's Flower Garden'. Materials are printed dress cottons, patterned and plain, mainly in pinks, blues and browns. The border and backing is grey linen and is machine stitched on. There is no padding. 2060 x 1579 mm.
Double sided square quilt. One side is a crocheted rug. The centre of this is 4 triangles joined and from this coloured bands in crochet radiate out to the border. The other side is randomly pieced scraps of mainly woollen material in checks, plains and tartans. Machine construction.

Patchwork quilt made from rectangles of samples of men's woollen suitings, in greys and blues and some browns. The rectangles were machine sewn together and then sewn in rows or strips. Originally the quilt had a rabbit skin backing, removed due to deterioration. No padding. Machine sewn.
