Description: 
Wholecloth quilt made from turquoise and red plaid brushed cotton, with a filling of a marcella bedspread with cut up pieces of knitted and crocheted garments stitched on top by hand and machine. Garment pieces are pink, red, yellow, black and pastels. Sleeves, collar and pockets can be clearly seen. Backing is an old blanket.
History: 

Made and owned by Ida Blenkiron, at Angaston (SA) 1958 - 1960.

Story: 

"I was widowed at the age of 42 years. My husband died of cancer & I was left to rear 5 young children on my own. Through owning valuable land I was not eligible for any pension (government rules at the time). So to help make ends meet I did all kinds of things including making these waggas from old jumpers, skirts etc."

Wholecloth quilt, machine sewn, made from cotton chintz with a pale green background and a floral pattern of bunches of pink roses and blue flowers, reversible. The centre is stitched in a diamond pattern with two outside borders, then filled with feathers, using a broom handle to force the feathers through. Cover made from 36" fabric, the pattern matched exactly. Excellent condition. Feather filling was collected by the makers from backyard poultry, geese, ducks, fowls. Called an eiderdown.

Quuilt constructed from large pieces of used clothing pieced together to form the top. There are layers of under shirts once used by the maker's father and also by her husband Bill. The backing is an old cream blanket.

Hand stitched appliqued quilt or banner. Different hand stitching indicates applique was probably done by several people. There is no padding. The backing is calico.

Cot quilt made in rows of crochet in treble clusters. Backed with blue cotton fabric. Backing replaced with another backing of blue fabric in 1970. Colours of rows are green,yellow, blue, pink and red.
