Nutcote was the harbourside home of the famous children's author and illustrator May Gibbs. It was built to her design in 1925 by acclaimed Sydney architect B.J Waterhouse. She lived there for forty four years until her death in 1969. This picturesque colonial Georgian cottage (c.1845) set in fine gardens was bequeathed to the National Trust by Miss Ida Traill, a descendant of pioneering settlers in the Bathurst district. The 19th century cottage garden is ablaze with colour in Spring. Containing memorabilia collected by Miss Traill and her family, the cottage provides an authentic record of life in Australia's oldest inland city.
The Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens and associated Herbarium occupy 83 ha of mostly dry forest with some moist creek areas, 5kms from the NSW south coast town of Batemans Bay. The art gallery was built and opened in 1988 and run by volunteers members of the Cooktown School of Art Society Inc. Local scenes by local artists are featured in this gallery. Approximately 100-150 works are on display. Works are mainly by art society members, with pottery and ceramic pieces available. Most pieces are for sale. This historic building (built in 1890) was the home of Henry Plantagenet and Katherine Rose Somerset. Henry was a member of Parliament from 1904-1920. Caboonbah is now the headquarters of the Brisbane Valley Historical Society Inc, and the complex consists of seven buildings: Caboonbah Homestead, Cement Building, Caretakers Cottage (private), the original Worker's Cottage, McGrath Cottage, Police Station and Cell Block. A telemetric service was provided from Caboonbah after the 1893 floods and is still on site and in use.600 collections
The Roma Bungil Cultural Community Centre is a modern, multifunctional complex built by the Roma Town and Bungil Shire Councils. The society's research centre is staffed by volunteers. Our activities include a monthly guest speaker and newsletter, regular radio interviews and personnel available for guided tours. We encourage the study, preservation and exhibition of historical records. The Museum is housed in the old power-station building, situated directly opposite the peanut silos in the town's Heritage Precinct. Other historic displays are located in Shire's earliest Council chambers and in Carroll's Cottage (the first building constructed in Kingaroy).The Museum's collection includes machinery used in local agriculture and the district's peanut industry. There is also a collection of tools used in trades such as carpentry, blacksmithing, dairying and the timber industry, as well as household items. The Museum also holds photos and a limited local archival records.
