Drawings and Prints

The Portland CEMA Arts Centre is a multipurpose venue utilised by community organisations and hirers for meetings, workshops, rehearsals performance and exhibitions. Its collection includes a selection of prints, drawings, watercolours and oil collected during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Highlights are a selection of Botanical drawings by the late Colin Woolcock and commissioned works in copper by the late Ronald Skate (c1980).
Built in 1884, the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery is Australia's oldest and largest regional gallery and Australia's 5th largest collection. Its collection spans early colonial through to contemporary art, with important works-on-paper collections and collections of decorative arts, costume and sculpture. Works from the Heidelberg School, and prints dating from Captain Cook's voyages to the present day are included. The Museum is housed in a Trust National Building, which is currently undergoing restoration. There are many maritime objects, including models of ships and a scale model of "Gerberus". We also have early clothing, domestic articles, an historic signature quilt from World War I, which has been to Sydney on loan. The Museum contains displays of Corps and related military memorabilia, as well as an outdoor display of over forty restored vehicles. While Australia's oldest public art gallery The National Gallery of Victoria undergoes a program of redevelopment, a temporary gallery is located at 285-321 Russell Street. The magnificently restored 19th century galleries at Russell Street house over 700 key works from the NGV's permanent collection. The National Gallery of Victoria on Russell marks the Gallery's return to its original home, which it occupied from 1861 until the move to the Roy Ground's designed building in St Kilda Road in 1968.

The Melbourne Cricket Club Museum is an accredited museum (since 1998) and holds a collection of primarily cricket related material, although there are significant holdings in the areas of Australian Rules football and MCC and MCG history. The RAAF Museum is Australia's biggest collection of military aircraft and memorabilia relating to the rich history of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force. Overlooking Corio Bay, the Geelong Maritime Museum is located in the stable of Osborne House which was built in 1857. The museum has displays looking at the colourful history of Osbourne House which was the site of the first Australian Naval College in 1913 and the first submarine base in 1921.
