Griffith Artworks is the management authority for 2500 objects that make up the Griffith University Art Collection, the On-campus Exhibition Program across 100 sites on five campuses between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, and acts as a Resource/Archive Centre for students undertaking curatorial, art historical and cultural studies at Queensland College of Art Griffith University. The gallery is the home of the Logan art collection. It features the Logan art award (national art award) held annually. It contains memorabilia of John Flynn, the Australian Inland Mission etc. The Fred McKay Art Gallery houses major works including prize winners from the Ernst Henry Memorial Art Show. This gallery is primarily for the use of members of the Maryborough Art Society as an outlet for their work. It also shows touring exhibitions and any other exhibition (e.g. photographic) that is of interest to the public. The gallery is housed in a Heritage listed warehouse, with the main gallery space used for changing exhibitions and a second room used for heritage theme works. The Wide Bay Hospitals Museum is a small museum housed in the Maryborough Base Hospital complex, cared for by a small group of past trained nurses and friends. It contains mostly items pertaining to the hospital and the medical profession. These include originals plans of the hospital built 1887; minutes of board meetings, early records of births and deaths, surgical instruments and apparatus, dental and pathology articles, reference books donated by doctors, and silverware from private section of hospital.Approximately 600
The art gallery was built and opened in 1988 and run by volunteers members of the Cooktown School of Art Society Inc. Local scenes by local artists are featured in this gallery. Approximately 100-150 works are on display. Works are mainly by art society members, with pottery and ceramic pieces available. Most pieces are for sale. The Museum has a large collection of photographs covering pioneer families, Aborigines, ex-servicemen from World Wars I and II, and modern photographs - all tracing Theodore's development. In 1994 the Torres Strait Museum displays were transferred from the old Masonic Lodge on John Street to the underground section of historic Green Hill Fort. The Fort was originally intended as a first line of defence for Australia against sea invasions in the 1855 war and World War II. Rooms of the Fort have been dedicated to different themes of display.
