Patchwork quilt (one of a pair) made from hexagons in cottons, rayon, and taffeta, to fit a single bed. The quilt has a pleated ruffle or flounce of pale green fabric. Patchwork machine sewn onto backing, flounce sewn by machine.
Constance Real
Quilt of hand sewn cotton hexagons arranged in rosettes or 'flowers'. The padding is seedless cotton imported from America and the backing is madapolin. The scraps for the hexagons came from old dresses and especially from the owner's children's clothes.

Patchwork quilt made from silks in hexagon shapes with dark silk triangles in between the hexagons. The centre of the quilt has a star design with an embroidered hexagon with six star points, with diamonds and hexagons, surrounded by a border of dark coloured diamonds on a cream ground. The quilt is edged with deep single scallops in alternate dark blue and white each with an appliqued six point star with a hexagon centre.

Tumbling Block quilt constructed over papers in the English method. Some papers are still inside the quilt including envelopes and stationery headers with dates '99 and 1898. The blocks are in a variety of silks and brocade fabrics, primarily black with rich purples and some pinks. There are stripes, tartans and small prints. The quilt has a border of 20cm hand made lace with a twisted cord between the quilt and lace. There is no padding and the backing is rust coloured cotton with a small black stripe. 1750 x 1550mm

Quilt of hand sewn mosaic patchwork, with square and lozenge shapes (5cm square in centre with 4 lozenges each side, lozenges 9cm x 4cm). The top has been folded down the middle and joined along 3 edges and whipstitched together, so that the quilt has one straight long side, and 3 sides with lozenge edge. Fabrics are richly coloured satin, grosgrain, silk, silk pinwhale corduroy, plain and prints.

Quilt top in 38mm hexagons set in straight rows surrounded by cream hexagons with an odd coloured hexagon in middle of cream row. Papers have been removed. Fabrics are 1920s and 1930s. There is no padding. 1700 x 1000mm

The quilt is made from rows of rectangles stitched together and then the strips joined. Materials are cotton and wool. The backing is a faded green cotton print. There is a different coloured binding along each edge.

Pure silk hand sewn Tumbling Block quilt incorporating a great variety of silks in plains, florals and stripes. The backing is large rectangles of striped silks or polished cottons. It is hand quilted in a simple square cross hatch.

Quilt made entirely of hexagon pieces, some forming diamonds and some rosettes. It is bordered with red and beige fringing. There is no padding and it is backed with silk shantung. "I think it is from scraps from between the 2 world wars but some may have been bought. They are the 'art silk' pieces. Most of it is in various silks and satins and there are some small pieces of linen." [C.N.]

Quilt of hexagons with a centre motif and continuous borders of hexagons and rosettes surrounding the centre. Quilt is of cotton dress and furnishing materials in red, green, yellow, purple, blue, pink and light brown, mostly florals, with some plains, stripes, dots and checks. It is hand sewn. There is no padding and the backing is calico.

The top is squares machined together in strips and then the strips joined. The squares are multi coloured and mainly in fleecy cotton. The backing is a checked cotton. The bindings are in the checked cotton on 2 sides and a purple and green cotton on the other 2. There is no padding.

Patchwork quilt made from cotton hexagon patches constructed in the 'Grandmother's Flower Garden' pattern. The rosettes are set in horizontal rows with cream 'paths' between. The quilt is edged with a border, 21cm wide, of blue and white striped cotton in a trianglur pattern. No padding.

Hand sewn quilt of cotton hexagons placed to form rosettes or 'flowers'' each unit is 6 hexagons and one in the centre. There is a border, based on squares, around the quilt. In the centre of a rosette in the middle of the quilt 'E.L.1798' is embroidered in grey cotton in cross stitch. The backing is cotton.

"Side I basically blue & brown tones. Materials a mixture of velvets & cotton (all washable) pattern random squares and few oblongs - dictated by material available. Material from children's clothes & pieces left over from clothes makng also pieces given to me by neighbours.
Side II basically orange red & purple tones again squares & oblongs at random dictated shapes & sizes by materials available, made from worn out clothes & pieces left over from clothes making, also pieces given to me by neighbours. Padding an old commercial quilt given to me."

Cotton quilt machine pieced from 64mm squares in blues, aqua and white, arranged in a straight furrows set. Machine quilted on the seam lines. The padding is cotton and the backing is cotton poplin. Bias binding has been used on the edges.

Machine pieced patchwork quilt with the top of squares of tailors' samples joined in rows. The backing is almost entiurely squares of machine knitted jumper samples and clothing pieces. The padding appears to be dark green woollen material.

Hand pieced cotton quilt in Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern. Shirtings, chintzes, roller prints. 240mm ruffle in paisley pattern on 3 sides, probably a later addition. The backing is a heavy Indian cotton possibly also put on later. There is no quilting at all. There is no padding.
