Social History Museum
The museum is housed in the 1848 built district Military Prison within the classified heritage precinct of Victoria Barracks. The exhibition spaces are the former exercise yards and six of the prison cells. The collection storage is in the remainder of the cells. Tarella Historic Cottage is in its original condition. In 1879 John McLaughlin was granted 50 acres in the Blue Mountains in recognition of his service in the NSW Volunteer Force. The grant is on Cox's Road at the site of 'Hobby's Reach', the stretch of road constructed by LT. Hobby in Cox's absence. The Museum was founded in 1860 by Sir Charles Nicholson, Chancellor of the University from 1854 to 1862. By writing to antique dealers abroad during the 1840s and 1850s Nicholson built up a collection of antiquities from all over western Europe. In the enlightened belief that it would be of greater value in Australia than in Europe, he donated to the University his collection of some 400 Egyptian antiquities, about 100 Greek vases, and some prehistoric, Etruscan and Roman objects. The NSW Schoolhouse Museum is housed in the first school buildings of North Ryde Public School. The original schoolroom was built in 1877 and started with 45 children. A second room was added in 1893 and two further rooms were added in 1910. As part of the North Pine Country Park Historic Precinct, operated by the Pine Rivers Shire Council, our all volunteer society operates the boiler house to keep alive the machines which helped to bring industry and prosperity to our state. It provides a unique learning experience for members and visitors alike.The boiler house has a unique collection of large steam engines, plus a number of smaller ones, that run on live steam. It also includes a 1900 traction engine, numerous old stationary engines and tractors, trucks and other memorabilia.
The Museum is housed in six buildings whose sections deal with roadside relics, old tools, the old shop, dairy, washing and ironing, household goods, clocks, telephones, lights, wireless, old hospital, pottery, jewellery and toys. The proprietor, John Menzies works in the museum as a harness maker, wheelwright, coach builder, mule skinner and blacksmith. He demonstrates his skills in these areas, as well as the working collection of horse gear and horse-drawn vehicles to visitors.8,000 items

The Zara Clarke Museum is housed in a late nineteenth century commercial building of size and scale unusual in Queensland country towns. The museum contains items pertaining to the history of Charters Towers. The large collection includes early transport vehicles, documents and domestic items.
