Newspapers, files on local organisations (eg churches, schools), photographs, local cemetery records, obituaries and some local family histories are included in this collection.
The Puffing Billy Railway is assisted by the efforts of over 700 volunteers from the Puffing Billy Preservation Society.
Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre is a unique and award winning design based on the open wings of the white Cockatoo - totem of the Grampians/Gariwerd region. Brambuk is committed to education, training and employment of Indigenous people and the preservation and promotion of culture.
This Gallery is housed in a purpose built structure, and is set in 4.5 hectares of cultivated bushland which is being developed as an Australian Sculpture Park.
The Italian Historical Society [I.H.S] was established in 1980 to collect, preserve, interpret and foster an understanding of the history and heritage of Italian immigration to Australia. It is the only historical society with this specialization in Australia.
The Society's base is the former Municipal Library (1909), an historic building now owned by the Rural City of Horsham.
Coolart is an historic farming property with buildings dating from the 1860s. A 100 years old mansion houses historic photographs and art exhibitions.

Como is one of a few surviving large suburban estates, dating from 1847, just over 10 years after European settlement of the Port Phillip district. For 95 years it was owned by the Armytage family, prominent graziers and well known members of Melbourne Society.
The Museum, consists of an historic post office (1890), a early and later period school buildings, pioneer's cottage and a bark hut. Lewis Lasseter (of fabled gold reef fame) - story of his activities in the district. His work boat is on display at the Museum.
The Cottage is furnished in the early 1900s style and contains many maps and photographs. Farm machinery and fishing gear are housed in the implement shed that sits in the Cottage's yard.
The Learmonth Old Shire Hall houses a local history collection of photographs, maps and newspapers pertaining to the former shire of Ballarat. Of particular interest is the photographic collection depicting early Councillors.Approximately 500 photographs
The Centre is housed in the historic Port Fairy Court House, formerly the district's Supreme court. The main courtroom is intact and includes the original furniture.
The Cohuna & District Historical Society Inc was established in 1970 and meetings were held in the old library at the Memorial Hall until 1984. The Museum, which received accreditation from Museums Australia in May 2001, is now housed in the former Presbyterian Church (built 1922).
An extensive international collection of gems, minerals and fossils are displayed in a well presented simulated mine. A recorded commentary supplements this display which is all on ground level.Approximately over 1000 gems, minerals and fossils from all over the world.
The small, four room miner's cottage is a replica of one destroyed by fire in 1991. It contains basic furnishing from the era of the original cottage. The Research Group also maintains an archive collection relating to the development of Ringwood.

The Society is based in a room within the classified former Mechanics Institute and its holdings include local records.
This diverse collection includes archives, photographs and sound recordings that relate to the establishment and practices of the Royal Women's Hospital from its foundation in 1856 to the present day.5000 items
Files, books and photographs of historical and current interest are amongst this collection. A vast collection of costume and memorabilia is stored at the public library. This material forms the basis of special displays which are occasionally mounted in the library foyer.
